When Tori Amos drops albums, they tend to be very conceptual and have ties to previous albums. However, when she drops an EP or B-sides, Tori really shines with songs that tend to have more humor and spontaneity. That is definitely the case with her new EP, White Telephone To God.
“White Telephone To God” starts the EP with Tori getting her wires crossed, confusing God with Jenny Craig, calling to confess her caloric sins. Then Tori has some retail therapy with “Dixie”, runs an adoption center from hell on “Trouble’s Lament”, and does some emotional storm chasing with “Cloud Riders.” The EP ends with a sequel “Upside Down 2” that is just as enjoyable as the original B-side.
Telephone To God has all the fancy finger piano-work you expect on a Tori compilation along with her identifiable vocals. These songs may be B-sides or bonus tracks but the balladry is just as beautiful as any Tori classic, in my gay opinion.
