Anyone who has seen Madonna’s Blonde Ambition Tour documentary Truth Or Dare is familiar with Donna De Lory and Niki Haris as her backup singers and dancers. Growing up as a huge Madonna fan, Donna and Niki were always singing backup to the soundtrack of my youth. They’ve gone on to perform with other singers and record their own music as well. After all these years they decided to team up together for a Pledge Music drive and the Two Friends EP was born. To celebrate, they released a cover of the Madonna song “Rain” (one of my all time favorite Madonna songs), which showcases the sound that became Two Friends.
Two Friends, is just that, two friends creating melodic music through harmonizing beauty with an acoustic campfire feel. This EP is all about true musicianship and the gorgeous melding of two rich voices. There’s no need for auto-tune in this love and positivity fest. “Two Friends” and “I Know You, I Live You” have a Latin flavor with a Spanish guitar flair. “Blessed To Be A Witness” and “When We’re Gone, Long Gone Light” pay homage to Niki’s gospel past and Donna’s New Age vibe in a Grand Ole Opry worthy country style. In my gay opinion, the shining star on Two Friends is the cover of “All Through The Night”. Normally I don’t like covers but their version of Cyndi Lauper’s classic is mind-blowing.
I hope that these two friends continue making music together, release more collaborations, and tour. Now is the time for them to step into the spotlight.
