Last month I went to the “Calling All Lifeforms…Is That All There Is To A Tour?” here in Connecticut. Zee Machine was one of the acts on the bill. This was my first introduction to Zee’s music, which is upbeat dance with some ballads thrown in and Zee’s stage presence has a gravitational pull that draws you in. I was hooked from their first original song but it was this cover that stayed in my head long after the show and sort of made me forget the original. Whitney who?
Zee’s album “Can I Be Honest…” came out last year, but this week a deluxe version (“Can I Be Really Honest…?”) dropped with the original seven tracks, as well as three new songs and an “acoustic from the road” version of “Heartbreakery.” The album has a gay club vibe with sexy sounds and even sexier lyrics. Right from the first verse of “I’m In Love (With Everyone)” you know you’re in for a fun and empowering ride:
Can I be honest?
You’re the prettiest boy I’ve ever seen in my life
For the next five minutes
Making no promise, but
I’ve been fantasizing someday about being your wife
Never mind, I’m finished
I missed the Zee train the first time around when the original album came out but I am on board for this version and loving the trip. In my gay opinion, “Can I Be Really Honest…?” is a little gritty with a positive aura and will leave you sweaty in all the right ways.
