This week the government started it’s flat-out attack on my trans family, which is sad and infuriating. Trans people have always had to fight for the few rights they were given, so seeing those rights being taken away is disheartening. I’ve even seen hatred from certain gay and trans celebrities, which I can’t even pretend to understand, trans people losing their rights hurts them and us all. I have a trans relative and follow others in the community, so I stand by them.
In my gay opinion, if I don’t like something, then I need to do something to make it better because there’s a hell of a lot of people making it worse. I have always used my little piece of the internet here to promote female and QUILTBAG artists because I don’t think they get enough attention in the mainstream. My own personal New Year’s Revolution is to up my QUILTBAG game, so count on seeing and hearing more artists from my Rainbow Family here.
Over the years, I have discovered a few trans divas that I like and did posts about. Their voices deserve to be heard again when so many are trying to silence them.
First there was Beverly Glenn-Copeland
Most recently there was Miki Ratsula
And thanks to a Kickstarter, I discovered and backed Light Bird’s campaign that thankfully reached it’s goal. As soon as her album is complete, expect to hear more here.
Until then, I’m actively seeking out other trans performers to support and promote. If anyone has any suggestions, I’m always open to checking out new artists. Hopefully now is the time where we can come together and support each other, instead of allowing hate to tear us apart.
