Moody Joody’s Dream Girl EP

I have a lot of singles (more than you have in your area) in my Spotify liked songs library. I’m waiting for full albums or EPs to drop, since that’s the true test of a diva’s talent, in my gay opinion. Moody Joody’s song “Talk It Out” has been sitting on my list for years and this month my wait was over because their Dream Girl EP finally came out.

Dream Girl has all the breathy pop-synth dreamscapes that “Talk It Out” promised and then some. Moody Joody consists of Kaitie Forbes and Kayla Hall, who’s vocals harmonize magically, along with the perfect production of Andrew Pacheco. Although the EP has a very electronic sound, the lyrics (cowritten by the group) aren’t just afterthoughts typical in that genre, instead they tell a story and give depth to each track.

Moody Joody’s sound is their own but also reminiscent of Babygirl, especially on the tracks “Ground Control” and “Velvet Connection”, and when they rock out on “Dream Girl” and “Pass The Time” it brings me back to Chrissie Hynde’s solo work. And I’ll never get mad at “El Camino High” with it’s spoken lyrics that are totally lacking in so much of today’s music.

Although Moody Joody has some familiar musical traits, they also have a sound that is new, fresh and has me believing their future can go in so many different directions.
