As I reviewed my playlist of the best songs this year for this post, I realized that musically, 2023 was a great year. I always enjoy discovering emerging divas but it’s the new music from divas that I have been following for decades that really excites me. This year saw the epic returns of Susanna Hoffs, Belinda Carlisle, Tina Arena, Maria Mena and Fefe Dobson.
However, 2023 will be most remembered as the Year Of The Queer Diva, in my gay opinion. I got introduced to such divas as Less Killjoy, Vivi Rincon, Marielle Kraft, Jenn Champion, Charley, Bexx and Nxdia. Plus there were releases from two of my lesbian favorites, Sophie B. Hawkins and The Aces. And although she might not be queer, one of the gayest albums this year had to be Cher’s Christmas album.
The divas were busy in 2023 and they didn’t disappoint, so I hope 2024 will be even more musically eventful. Here’s to wishing my divas and all of you have a happy and healthy New Year.
